PAINT PRODUCTION

Paint is any chemical substance that is applied on the surface of a building or an object to make it beautiful. It is pertinent to know that Paint Production is one of the lucrative business both locally and internationally.

Most entrepreneurs are going into paint production as a result of the high demand and the wealth it is creating.

For those that want to go into paint production you may be wondering how paint is been produce and the equipment used in the production.
Nevertheless I have them here, so all you have to do is to keep reading.

EQUIPMENT USE IN PAINT PRODUCTION

In paint production we need the following equipments:

  •  Standing Drums

  •  Mixing Machine

  •  Paddle

  • Containers

  •  Mouth Mask

  •  Hand Gloves

  •  Aprone

The following are the functions of paint manufacturing components:

 Don't Miss This Opportunity

  • 1. Pigment: This chemical is a colouring agent that add colour to the paint it is a determinant of the paint capacity.

  • 2. Thinner: This is best surface properties of paint and enables for its easy application in the substance (e.g objects and walls)

  • 3. Binder: This holds all other components of the paints together. It helps in holding the paint firmly on any surface to which it is applied. Please when producing paint you should remember that the type of paint determines the type of binder to use.

  • 4. Additives: These are preservatives used for the purpose of preserving the paint. It determines the life span of the paint been produced.

PAINT PRODUCTION STAGES

  • 1 .MIXING:   This is the placing of carefully calculated amount of binder together with relevant additives and pigment in a dispersion mill to be finally mixed.

  • 2. STABILIZATION: This has to do with adding the already calculated amounts of resins-solvents and some additive after the right dispersions are obtained. This is followed by the discharge of the mill from the dispersion mill.

  • 3. REDUCTION. This is the finishing stage where the balanced Resins and additives go into mix and once it is acknowledged by the quality control team the paint is ready to be fill into containers.

  • 4. FILLING/ LABELING: This the measurement of already certified produced paint by the quality control team into container in readiness for onward transmission to the customers.

  • 5. STORAGE:  It may interest you to know that some of the raw materials used in producing paint e.g Pigment are affected when exposed to damp environment. On the other hand materials like nitrocellulose chips/cotton have to be stored under damp conditions to avoid fire hazard and explosion.

The total water required in formulation above is 26%.

Looking at the formulation for the production of 2500 gram of paint the calculation of water needed is as thus;

Percentage of water of standard x Required gram of paint
            100%

That is                      26/100             x    2500g   =650g

This means that 650g of water should be measured which can be converted to volume.

Conclusively other chemical we be calculated the same way using the above formulation as your standard to decide the required mass that should be added.

On the other hand all other chemicals we be added following the direction in the formulation table above     one after another adding the water at the specified intervals as stated in the table and mix thoroughly to make sure every mixed together.

  • After the mixture must have settled you then package in buckets and seal for sales.

  • After the mixture stays for a long time it can homogenize the more and can be further diluted with water before use. You can add different colour to turn the paint to other of choice.
